Heidi & Jarrad
Chapter II
Engagements
The Wait
From that lavender afternoon when Heidi and Jarrad first met among the blooms, their story did not end—it only began to unfold across distance and time.
Jarrad, a doctor in the navy, was soon called to serve across the seas. The ocean, vast and unyielding, became the quiet space between them. And yet, love found its way through even the widest waters.
They wrote to one another endlessly, their words carried across winds and tides. One day, Heidi wrote a letter filled with hope, sealed it in a glass bottle, and released it into the sea as the tide reached for it.
Months later, far from home aboard his ship, Jarrad found the bottle drifting beside the hull. Inside were Heidi’s words—alive with longing, steady as a heartbeat—and suddenly the distance between them no longer felt infinite.
So they continued like this, love moving quietly through ink, wind, and tide; two hearts speaking across water that refused to keep them apart. Until at last, the day came when Jarrad’s ship turned toward home.
Heidi waited at the shore beneath a soft blue sky. When the vessel appeared on the horizon, she saw him at once—standing tall and searching for her.
She ran. The world narrowed to waves and footsteps on wood until she reached the end of the pier. And there, at last, they met and fell into each other’s arms as though no distance had ever existed between them.
Nearby, a small boat waited, overflowing with flowers—roses, poppies, and blossoms woven through its frame like a blessing. Without a word, they stepped aboard together.
As the ropes were released and the boat drifted from shore, Heidi rested her head against Jarrad’s shoulder. The sea that once divided them now carried them forward—gentle, wide, and endlessly open beneath the sky.
